Can you celebrate the season without packing on pounds? You betcha! We found 8 simple…
Are you one of those on the heavy side and need to drop some weight? Chinese New Year is just around the corner and that means tons of parties and delicious food. But if you want to avoid holiday weight gain, you must remain sensible during and after the big event.
Here are our top tips plus our exclusive Herbalife Holiday meal plan and weight loss meal plan for enjoying this merry festival while avoiding wily kilo creep!
Healthy Holiday Eating Tips During and After Chinese New Year
Tip #1: Exercise regularly.
Don’t take a break from working out just because it’s merry-making season, no matter how tempting that may be. Keep your regular exercise routine (at least 30 minutes each day). It will help you burn more calories and boost your metabolism, helping you lose the weight. Do cardio and go for a run or walk. Add some strength training exercises (e.g. squat jumps, walking lunges, weight lifting) to build lean muscle mass.
Tip #2: Drink plenty of H2O.
Drink a glass of water 30 minutes before each meal. Our body may mistake thirst for hunger so drink some before taking that first bite. Water will also help flush out the toxins accumulated from the feasting. Limit your intake of alcohol and sugary drinks.
Tip #3: Use smaller plates.
Big plates encourage you to eat more while smaller plates carry less food so you’ll eat less. Portion control will help you watch your calorie intake and keep track of the amount of foods you take.
Tip #4: Slow down when munching.
Eating slowly gives your brain time to realize you’ve had enough. Savour every bite. Use chopsticks when eating. Save some room and always eat up to 70% of fullness.
Tip #5: Look for healthy alternatives.
Nian Gao, Kuih Kapit (love letters), pineapple tarts and other Chinese New Year delicacies taste so good, but too much of it will affect your health. Replace some of them with healthy snack choices such as rice crackers, dried apricots, dates, prunes, berries and unsalted nuts.
Tip #6: Remove yourself from the temptation.
It’s only YOU who can stop holiday weight gain. Share the sinful food with someone else. Sit near the vegetables or sit facing away from the food.
Tip #7: Follow the Herbalife Holiday Meal Plan.
Here’s how you can relish the feast sans putting on a lot of weight:
For people who can’t keep up with their Formula 1 Shakes but still want to lose weight

- After Your Big Meal: Take 5 caps of Herbal Aloe Concentrate in 250 mL or less/more water to remove the bad stuff from your system.
Note: The progress will be slower as compared to following the meal plan completely.
Another option: The Complete Herbalife Holiday Meal Plan
- 1 Hour Before Your Big Meal: Take 1 Formula 1 Shake (Ensure you take the shake at least 1 hour before the meal, otherwise it will lead to weight gain).
